The Louisiana Chemistry Association Comments on SCOTUS Coastal Lawsuit Decision
BATON ROUGE – April 17, 2026 - Today, David Cresson, President and CEO of the Louisiana Chemistry Association (LCA), made the following comment on today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision in Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Plaquemines Parish.
“The Louisiana Chemistry Association welcomes today’s unanimous U.S. Supreme Court decision in Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Plaquemines Parish. The case was argued in January, and the Court ruled today that the Fifth Circuit’s decision should be vacated and the case sent back for further proceedings, meaning the case will move forward in federal court. This is an important outcome for Louisiana industry. At the heart of this case is a simple principle: when lawsuits involve work carried out in connection with a federal mission, they should be heard in federal court.
For Louisiana’s chemistry industry, this matters not only because of what it means for one company in one case, but because of what it signals for the future. Our industry helps power American manufacturing, supports critical supply chains, and plays an important role in our economy and national security. Businesses should have confidence that when those federal interests are implicated, they will be evaluated in the right forum.
Chevron is a valued and long-standing member of LCA, and we are pleased to see the Court reach the right result.”
