September 11 Anniversary Serves as Security Reminder
The anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon serves as an annual reminder to us of the important steps we, as a nation, a state and an industry, have taken to become more secure in everything we do. But it should also keep us mindful to always be alert.
Since the 9/11 attacks, there have been many valuable partnerships formed between the federal, state and local governments and the chemical industry. Facilities work with the government agencies such as the FBI, local and state law enforcement, emergency preparedness agencies and homeland security. These groups work with the industry in protecting its production and manufacturing functions, as well as its cyber security.
In the 13 years that has passed since the strike on our safety, there have been monumental leaps in awareness, along with massive advances in the functionality and capabilities of our security systems. But it doesn’t mean that we are in the clear for good. As our security continually improves, so does the technology of those terrorist cells looking to once again strike the homeland. We must always be on our toes and always be prepared to incorporate new and better security measures.
