LCA Statement on Climate Change Task Force
LCA President & CEO Greg Bowser Statement on Governor Edward’s Climate Initiative Task Force
On Wednesday morning, Governor John Bel Edwards created the state’s Climate Initiative Task Force via Executive Order. LCA has been in communication with the Governor’s team during the months of initial planning and will continue to play an active role by representing Louisiana’s chemical industry on the Task Force.
Greg Bowser, President & CEO of the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA), made the following statement regarding the announcement of the Climate Initiative Task Force by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards:
“LCA would, first and foremost, like to commend Governor Edwards for convening a broad coalition of stakeholders to achieve the important goal of preserving and protecting Louisiana’s future by addressing climate change. It is an honor to be an active partner in finding short and long-term meaningful solutions that are beneficial for the people and businesses of our great state.
The good news is our industry is already making great strides. In fact, over the past 30 years, Louisiana chemical manufacturers have cut air emissions by 75 percent, all while increasing production across the state. The once inconceivable accomplishment is now a reality.
Chemical companies are dedicating billions of dollars to upgrade facilities with new environmental technology, including extensive air and water monitoring investments. New facilities, and older facilities that have undergone recent upgrades, are fitted with cutting-edge environmentally-focused initiatives to provide employees and communities with the best available health and safety processes and work environments.
We are excited to have the opportunity to share those advances with elected officials and other industries to collaboratively work towards a better future for our communities, while helping to make Louisiana a national leader in tackling climate challenges.”
