2013 LCA & LCIA Annual Legislative Conference
The Louisiana Chemical Association and the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance held their 2013 Annual Legislative Conference on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center.
The conference kicked off on Tuesday evening with the Annual Legislative Reception with members of the Louisiana legislature as special guests. The next morning the Annual Legislative Conference opened with LCA Chairman, Paul Barletta of Momentive, introducing the members to the new and improved associations website, www.lca.org. Barletta also encouraged the membership to participate in the various social media sites of the LCA and LCIA.
The program continued with a presentation from Stephen Moret, Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development discussing the chemical investment bonanza Louisiana is currently experiencing. He was followed by Dr. David Dismukes of the LSU Center for Energy Studies. Dr. Dismukes presented a detailed account of the game changing effect of shale gas. Then Dan Borné, President of the LCA and LCIA gave a presentation on the stunning economic impact of Louisiana’s new industrial revolution. Their AV presentations can be found below.
In the midst of all the positive news regarding this Louisiana chemical industry renaissance, members were also brief on the current events taking place at the Capitol and the devastating blow that could quickly derail the industry comeback.
Immediately following the business session, the membership enjoyed lunch with a very special guest, Governor Bobby Jindal. He complimented the industry on its growth and reiterated his concern for the legislative proposals that are being considered. Please view our YouTube Channel for a brief video of the Governor's address and Secretary Moret' comments to the group regarding their oppostion to the proposed tax increases under consideration by members of the Legislature.
Our keynote luncheon speaker, Cal Dooley, President & CEO of the American Chemistry Council spoke on the National Perspective of the US Manufacturing Renaissance.
